Linda Rossnagle Guite

Linda Rossnagle Guite, age 81, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Brunswick, Maine. She was born on September 16, 1943, in Biddeford, Maine, and graduated from the Kennebunk school system in 1961. She earned her nursing degree from the Maine Medical Center School of Nursing in 1964. Her early career as a nurse began in Waterville, Maine, where she worked alongside her husband, Lee Guite, in his private practice. As her family grew, Linda shifted her focus to community service—an area where she would leave a lasting legacy. Linda’s commitment to service began in earnest in 1974, following the passage of Title IX. Recognizing the need for inclusive youth programs, she joined forces with other local women to establish the Kennebec Valley Girls Club. As secretary and founding board member, she played a pivotal role in raising $1.3 million to renovate a new activity center—an effort that led to the creation of the Boys & Girls Club of Waterville. Her dedication continued through 1980 as she helped organize numerous fundraising events. In recognition of her contributions, she was inducted into the Boys & Girls Club Hall of Fame in December 1995. Linda's passion for community extended into healthcare advocacy through her work with the local hospital auxiliary committees beginning in 1975. She helped raise funds for hospitals and scholarship programs. Her leadership was recognized when she served as Vice President in 1980 and President from 1981 to 1982. Linda contributed to civic planning as a member of the Oakland Planning Committee starting in 1977. Serving first as secretary and later as vice chairman until 1982, she played an important role in shaping the town’s development during a period of growth. Linda’s life was enriched by her love of nature and physical activity. Whether gardening in her yard, sailing along coastal routes, or skiing through snowy trails, she embraced every season with enthusiasm. The family spent many summers in Ocean Point. In 1993, Linda and Lee moved to the East Boothbay area where they continued to sail, and Linda began working for the Boothbay Region Greenhouse. Linda’s appreciation for stillness and beauty was matched by her creative talents. At a young age, taught by her mother and grandmother, she became an accomplished knitter and crocheter. Her handmade mittens, scarves, and shawls are treasured keepsakes among those fortunate enough to receive them. Linda lived a life of deep compassion and joyful connection where family was always at the center of her world. She delighted in time spent with her children and grandchildren, whether it was creating gingerbread homes, game nights, or going to their various activities. Linda is lovingly remembered by her children: Melissa and Sheshadri Mantha; Stephanie Guite; Amy and Greg Greuel; Matt and Sarah Guite; and by her cherished grandchildren: Mika Mantha; Willow, Reed, and Teal Beavis; Olivia and Allison Greuel. She also leaves behind her brothers Etienne (Spike) and Foxwell Emmons; sister in law Nancy Guite Powers; nephews Christopher Guite; Jarrod and Logan Desjardins. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Lee Guite; parents Natalie (Richards) Emmons and Donald Rossnagle; step-parents Steve Emmons and Lorraine Rossnagle; and sister Dona Desjardins. Linda will be remembered not only for her accomplishments but for the warmth she brought into every room. Her kitchen counter was a place of comfort where friends gathered for food, conversation, laughter—and sometimes counsel. She offered support without hesitation and cultivated bonds that lasted lifetimes. Many considered her a second mother—a testament to how deeply she touched those around her. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 16, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the Emmons Preserve, located at 57 Gravelly Brook Road, Kennebunkport. Family and friends are invited to gather together to honor Linda’s memory and share stories that reflect the joy she brought into so many lives. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Linda’s name to the Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA of Greater Waterville or the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust. May Linda's legacy of service, love for nature, and unwavering devotion to family continue to inspire all who knew her.
