Nathan Everett Dow

Nathan Dow was born in the winter of 1975 on February 15th and departed this life peacefully on March 2, 2021, at his home surrounded by family and friends. Born an alluring mischievous blue-eyed boy in 1975, Nate would grow up sharing his busy household with two other brothers, Rob and Jay and a large family filled with many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Nate’s childhood was anything but quiet. Filled with lots of get-togethers, riding BMX bikes, dance parties in the kitchen, camping out and as Cousin Jenny shared on Facebook, “ad-libbing your own words to songs in the car”, “recording music with our preteen band”, or “family parties when we were thicker than thieves and you were always the bad influence”. From a young age, Nate had a love for the outdoors, four-wheeling, hunting, fishing, riding BMX and mountain bikes or anything with wheels and a motor. Including his first car, a 1980 Ford mustang that leaked oil like a sieve, as his brother Rob recalls. Although Nate didn’t know it at the time, he met the love of his life, Becca in the summer of 1996 while hanging out in the “neighborhood” at Woody’s. They became forever loves in 2000 and would go on to spend more than twenty-one years together making many incredible memories, including a handsome baby-boy, Connor who was born in 2005. Nate and Becca built an awesome life together and would spend their years chock-full of fun, family and friends. From camping at Wassamki, four-wheeling in the pits, UFC fights at Krystle and Roll’s, motorcycle cruising, frequent concerts and fires in the backyard, they surrounded themselves with great people and knew how to have a good time. Nate was always a breath of fresh air and was never afraid to speak his mind or call it like it was. He was often sarcastic, quick witted and charming, but most memorable was his smile and laugh, both equally infectious. He knew how to make people laugh with his fresh sense of humor -which was usually in the gutter (truth!), just one of the innumerable things we loved about him. As I sit here and write this, I keep referring to all the wonderful heartfelt messages on Nate’s Facebook and the one thing that is repeatedly recalled was his laugh, his smile and the clear fact that he was a great man. It’s clear that Nate was loved by so many people. I’m not surprised that his spicy character and truth speaking touched so many lives. “Roger that”, he’d say and follow up with a giant bear hug. Please, when you have time, look at Nate’s Facebook, all the shared memories and photos of him, smiling and usually hugging someone. So much love. Although Nate was undoubtedly taken from us far too soon; we should remember and be grateful for the forty-six years we did have with him. That’s what he would want, not to ponder the what-ifs but to celebrate his life and remember him for what he was, a great man with a hell-of-a-great sense of humor. “Atta boy” Nate, you did it, in your forty-six years of life, you stamped our hearts forever. We’ll take our time to be sad, we’re going to cry and wish you were here because that’s how much we loved/love you, but most importantly we promise to celebrate you too. Who knows, maybe with a brandy or three. You will be missed but most importantly remembered. We will honor your spicy spirit and continue to live as you did, with heart, grace, sarcasm and a whole lotta truth speaking. “Don’t worry about it”, as you would often say, we’ll take it from here. We will take care of Becca, Connor and each other. Nate’s memory will be carried on by the love of his life, Rebecca Gudaitis and their son Connor Dow of Sanford, Maine. Nate was preceded in death by his father, Everett A. Dow Jr. We will be holding an outdoor celebration of life at a later date and we will notify friends and family via social media and/or the Go Fund Me page.
