Peter Vincent Carlino

Peter Vincent Carlino December 26, 1950 – August 22, 2024 (Age 73) It is with great sadness that the family of Peter Vincent Carlino, announce his peaceful passing, on Thursday, August 22nd, 2024, at the age of 73. Peter, formerly of Tewksbury, MA and Hollis, NH, last resided in Scarborough, ME. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, in-law, father, uncle, grandfather, and loyal friend whose warmth, generosity, and humor touched all who knew him. Born on December 26, 1950 in Boston, Massachusetts, Peter was the son of the late Fortune A. Carlino and Margaret A. (Boyle) Carlino. The eldest of six, he is survived by his siblings Anne (Jim) Mercier, Peggy (Brian) Irwin, John (Linda) Carlino, Kathy (Pat) Deignan, and Cheryl LaRosa. He was also an uncle to eleven nieces and nephews. Peter will be remembered by his siblings for his brotherly friendship, guidance, and largest of hearts. Peter is also survived by his loving and loyal wife, partner, and friend, Meryl Golovin. Peter and Meryl truly enjoyed one another’s company, and shared travel and adventure, good times with family and friends, as well as life's more simple joys. Peter leaves behind his biological children; son, Aaron (Lissa) Carlino, and daughter, Ashley (Justin) Doyle (from his first marriage to Kathryn DePaoli Carlino). Additionally, he leaves behind daughter Amelia St. John (daughter of Meryl and her previous husband). Peter cherished and was exceptionally proud of each of his children and his love and pride extended to his four grandchildren, Gus and Lucian Carlino, and Bianca and Eloise Doyle, who brought him immense joy. Peter attended Northeastern University, graduating with an engineering degree. He went on to hold successful careers at Honeywell, Wang Labs and retired following a marketing career at Cisco Systems. Peter and Meryl also owned successful vacation rental properties together. Having been an accomplished business owner, after retirement Peter gravitated to SCORE Maine, where he was a volunteer mentor for new small business owners. Embracing the philosophy of working “smarter not harder,” Peter placed importance on making time for life’s enjoyments. He greatly enjoyed traveling, new cultural experiences, and especially enjoyed trying new foods wherever he went. He was a well liked and respected colleague and community member who made contributions both through his work and volunteerism. He was admired for his compassion, mentorship, integrity, and willingness to lend an ear or a helping hand. Peter was a years-long lover of The New England Patriots, and all things “Pats.” He was known for his never waning and enthusiastic support of his team, and could find common ground in talking about them with anyone who could keep up. Peter also had a great love for biking, exploring new trails with Meryl, or enjoying the peace of a solo ride. He cycled a celebratory 60 miles, the year of his 60th birthday. In addition to his many hobbies and endeavors, Peter was especially known for his quick wit and humor, never missing an opportunity to crack a joke, particularly a corny “dad” version, or a clever pun. He had a way of drawing people in with his comedic character. Peter will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering perseverance, his strength of spirit, and ability to meet the moment and circumstance will continue to inspire those who knew him. Peter’s family would like to extend their appreciation to Peter’s health care providers: Dr. Christian Thomas, and Dr. Mark Wrona, their staff, to Sara Kain, DPT, and to the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House staff for their kind, respectful, and dignified care. In lieu of flowers, Peter’s family asks that his tireless spirit be remembered, shared, and paid forward with respect and kindness to others. Any plans for a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
