Robert Ernest Erickson

Robert Ernest Erickson, 93, of Augusta, Maine and formerly of Meredith, New Hampshire and also Medfield, Massachusetts - May 24, 2025 We share with you our news that Robert (Bob) Erickson, loving husband to Marilyn (Mimi), father to Pamela, Lynn and Tracy, dear family member and a friend to many others, passed away peacefully with his wife and daughters by his side after a brief stay at Maine Health Medical Center in Portland, Maine. The son of Eric Julias and Olga Marie (Swenson) Erickson, Bob was born in Chelsea, MA and grew up in Everett, the youngest of four siblings; Carl, Harold and Hilda. He graduated from Everett High School in 1949 and went on to attend Huntington Preparatory School where he excelled in his favorite subject of History. Bob also attended Boston University where he studied accounting and met the love of his life, Marilyn. Bob was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity at BU where he and Marilyn had a wonderful time attending parties and social events. Bob later earned his MBA from Babson College in Wellesley, MA. After Bob’s graduation from BU, he was called on by the US Army to serve post conflict in Korea and it was prior to his leaving for this duty he asked Marilyn to be his wife. They married in April of 1959 and went on to celebrate over 66 happy years together. Their three daughters, Pamela, Lynn and Tracy joined their family in 1960, 1963 and 1965 respectively. His career took him from the Raytheon Company to Keystone Investors and finally with the GTE Sylvania Corporation where he was a cost analyst. Bob was predeceased by his daughter Pamela in 1986. He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn, his daughter Lynn and her husband Scott of Sidney, Maine, his daughter Tracy Gagnon of Douglas, Massachusetts and his four grandchildren; Thomas, Amber, Jeffrey and Eric. Bob’s family was truly the center of his life and he spent many happy times with them celebrating birthdays, holidays, anniversaries and his favorite vacations in New Hampshire with all of them. Retirement found him and Mimi on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, a dream come true for both of them. It was there they spent treasured times with their family swimming, boating and doing what they loved most; simply creating a multitude of memories for us all to treasure. Bob will most be remembered by his kindhearted demeanor and his gentle ways. He often spent weekend time taking care of our house or yard and loved having a project to work on. An armchair sports fan, he was fond of watching football,hockey and baseball; he sure enjoyed routing for his Boston teams! An avid card player, he had the patience to teach us his favorite game of cribbage, a tradition of play that continues to this day! He loved music and always had a stack of records playing at home - he saw to it that we all learned to appreciate a wide variety of musical genres - his favorites were the Big Bands, Willie Nelson and Anne Murray to name a few. He didn’t mind taking a ribbing from his kids for always having WJIB playing on the radio. A bit of a wanderlust, he certainly loved to explore - one of his favorite things to do was go for a “Sunday Drive” and would load the family in the car to cruise around backroads to see where they would take us - usually to some sort of an ice cream place. We loved to tease him about his habit of reading all the signs out loud, something that has endeared him to us always. Later, in his retirement he and Marilyn took a number of cross-country road trips and Bob was in all of his glory driving through all those different parts of our country. He tried his best at photography, but for some reason that perfect picture always seemed to elude him, he and Mimi joked about that quite often. Moving to Augusta to be closer to family a few years ago brought a new set of challenges to Bob and his family but he met them head on and with his usual quiet acceptance - he was a man who always tried to make the best of things, regardless. His family would like to thank the folks at Howell House for being gracious neighbors and Bridget who was a very special helper for him in the last few months of his life. We would also like to extend our most sincere thanks to our family and friends for their outpouring of sympathy and caring thoughts as Dad fought his final and thankfully short battle after his fall. The nurses at Maine Health in Portland, Maine were beyond helpful and we are most grateful for their outstanding compassion in their care for Dad, especially nurse Derek who told us all what an honor it was for him to care for Bob. In lieu of flowers, we are certain Dad would be pleased if the nurses who cared for him could be honored in a special way through the Daisy Foundation.
