He was surrounded by friends and family. Andrew was born in New York City on March 30, 1963, to Robert and Marietta Williams, joining his older brother, David Williams. He spent the majority of his childhood in Rye, New York. After exploring the East Coast in his youth, he returned to live in New York City, where he met his future wife, Christinne Lee, and many lifelong friends. They married in 1994 at Andrew's parents' backyard in Pennsylvania. He and Christinne then embarked on a new chapter of their lives in Honolulu as he began pursuing his studies in psychology. In 2004, Andrew and Christinne gave birth to their daughter, Pema Williams. Andrew received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa in 2006. In 2013, after many long years cultivating an extended 'ohana in Hawai'i, the family relocated to Portland, Maine, and eventually settled in Falmouth. Andrew's career was ever-evolving, and his work remained important to him throughout his life. In 2018, Andrew joined the team at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where he became Director of the Center for Advanced Healthcare Research Informatics at Tufts Clinical and Translational Science Institute; and Assistant Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine; he was also on the steering committee of the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics initiative (OHDSI) and co-led several OHDSI working groups. In addition, Andrew served as Professor of Practice in Northeastern University's Bouvé College of Health Sciences. He cared deeply about his work and was a significant contributor to the world of healthcare informatics, as well as a treasured colleague to all who worked with him. Andrew was a lifelong learner with an unbridled interest in a wide range of arts and sciences, possessing an encyclopedic knowledge of both. Though his interests were hugely diverse, he was particularly enthusiastic about music, with a passion for sharing songs of all kinds. Andrew's fascination with life in all its forms was enduring, enriching many of the long conversations he cherished over meals with family and friends. He also loved travel, and his understanding of culture and history had a way of leading others to paths of shared humanity. Authenticity excited him, and though he loved adventure, he remained grounded in a genuine appreciation of daily life. He was beloved by a wide circle of family and friends for his kindness, generous and exuberant spirit, and his gentle nature. Andrew's love for his family, biological and chosen, was immense; to be around him was to be celebrated and uplifted. Andrew is survived by his wife, Christinne Lee-Williams; daughter, Pema Williams; father, Robert Williams; brother, David Williams (Christine); mother-in-law, Jungja Lee; brother-in-law, Jonathan Lee (Beatrice); nieces and nephews, Cameron, Justin, Lauren, Elena, Miriam, Violet; and his beloved greyhound, Zora. He is predeceased by his mother, Marietta Williams, and father-in-law, Anthony Lee. Andrew was a singular individual who, throughout the many chapters of his life, lived with zeal and intention. He is dearly missed. Honoring Andrew's wishes to support learning and science, the Department of Medical Education at Tufts University School of Medicine received Andrew's body through its anatomical donation program. A Celebration of Life will be held on September 20, 2025, at the Barn at Old Smith Farm, 226 Gray Road, Falmouth, Maine, at 12 pm. All are invited. Donations can be made in Andrew's honor to Doctors Without Borders. Light lunch will be served. RSVP to: Juddcottage@gmail.com by September, 10th please.
