Obituary

Clark Hibbard Whittier died on September 26, 2025 after a long illness. He was born March 24, 1945 in Boston MA, the son of Ross and Dorothy Hibbard Whittier. He was raised in various towns in Massachusetts, including Salem, Housatonic, Chelmsford, and Sheffield, and graduated from Berkshire School in 1963. He graduated from Colby College in Waterville ME in 1967 and later earned an MBA from the University of Southern Maine. He married Kathryn Haskell in 1967. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1967 through the ROTC program and served as a base services officer at bases in Warner Robins GA and Stuttgart and Frankfurt Germany and was discharged in 1972 as a captain. After the military, he began a food services management career at Brigham's Ice Cream in Woburn MA, then at Bonanza Steak House in Brunswick ME, Deering Ice Cream in Portland ME, Verillo's Red Coach Grill in Portland, and John Martin's Merry Manor in South Portland ME. He then operated a Hood's Home Delivery route for several years. His last career was as a food broker, first for LeBoeuf & Associates and then for S.P. Jackson & Associates, both of Massachusetts, where he primarily represented Icelandic Seafood and became known in northern New England as "The Fishman." He retired in 2011 and became a Master Gardener through the Cumberland County Cooperative Extension. He spent many happy hours of his retirement gardening and watching and supporting his granddaughters' sports and watching his favorite Boston Bruins and Red Sox. He was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his wife Kathryn, daughter Linda, granddaughters Kathryn (Katie) and Elizabeth (Ellie) of Freeport, son Scott and wife Kimberly and grandson Matthew of Windham. A Celebration of Life will be held at the North Yarmouth Congregational Church, 3 Gray Road, North Yarmouth, on Sunday, October 12 at 2:00 pm.
