David George Gilbert 1951 - 2025 Age 73 Scarborough, Maine David George Gilbert, 73, of Gray, Maine, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, Maine, after a courageous battle with metastatic cancer. Born on February 11, 1951, at Maine General Hospital in Portland, Maine, David was the son of Mrs. Fern E. (Howell) & Michael Joseph Nee Jr. He spent his childhood in Portland and attended local schools before embarking on a diverse career that included roles at Ellis Paperboard, Jordan's Meats, and TOMRA. David found his greatest joy in nature. Whether camping beneath the stars or fishing by tranquil waters, he cherished these moments of connection with the natural world. His love for the outdoors created a legacy of treasured memories for those who shared these experiences with him. He is lovingly remembered by his children: Damian Gilbert; granddaughter Lily; Travis (Katie) Gilbert; granddaughters Brayley, Haley, and Mikel; Jason (Casey) Gilbert; grandson Braydon, granddaughter Kendal; and Laurie (Tim) Graham. David's siblings are Raymond (Jan) Gilbert of Coolidge, AZ; Brenda (Billy) Tillery of Berea, KY; Pamela (Tim) Howe of Richmond, KY; Karen (Jerry) Simsik of Lakeland, FL; Michael (Beth) Nee; and Kevin (Kim) Nee, both of Westbrook, ME. He also leaves behind his former wife Sandra Bragdon; his beloved dogs Chloe and Daphine; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. David was predeceased by his brother-in-law Timothy John Howe; niece Deidra Lee Howard; nephews Christian Thomas Gilbert and Timothy Shaun Howard; his parents, Fern Esther (Howell) Nee and his father, Michael Joseph Nee Jr.; and grandparents Thomas and Jennie (Beaumont) Howell and Joseph and Nellie (Larocque) Gilbert. A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate David's life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice in his memory.
