Westport Island – Denise "Dee" Dow, age 59, passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on June 23, 1964. Dee was a vibrant and free-spirited force of nature, who always wore her heart on her sleeve. She loved photography and particularly enjoyed capturing stunning images of the many beautiful creatures and places all around us. Dee worked, most recently, for Unum, a job that she loved and felt deeply supported by. She was a jack-of-all-trades and lived life pursuing her many passions. She was a massage therapist, nail technician, and at one point, worked with the team that built the Sagadahoc Bridge connecting Bath and Woolwich. Above all else, Dee loved her family. She is survived by her parents, Donald and Myrna Dow of Westport Island; her daughter Amanda Alley and granddaughter Kaelyn of Oakland; her son Shane Boyes, his wife Madeline, and granddaughter Mabel of Bangor; her sister Karen Mara of Bryson City, North Carolina; and their families. Private services will be held for her family. A public Celebration of Life will be held on her birthday, June 23, 2024, from 11:00am to 1:00pm at the Old Westport Island Town Hall. All are welcome.
