Portland - The family of Douglas (Downsy) Alan Downs of Hartford, ME is saddened to announce his passing on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the age of 71 years old. He was born on January 3, 1954 in Rumford, ME. Doug was the son of Donald and Ferne (Blaisdell) Downs. He was the youngest of six children. He attended local schools. His work history included driving limousine for his brother in South Dakota, construction, and working at the potato farm near his home. Doug was an avid music lover who, because of his enthusiasm for it, thought, the louder the music the better. He loved dancing and his energy could light up a room. He knew how to have fun. His laugh was absolutely infectious. Often times Doug could be seen casually enjoying the local trails and taking in his surroundings on his four-wheeler. He adored his family and always looked forward to family gatherings. He had a special admiration for animals. He delighted in spending time gardening as well. Doug was a long-time member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles # 1248 in Rumford, ME. Doug is survived by his companion of twenty-seven years, Jennine Quinn, of Hartford, ME; loving daughters, Melissa L'Heureux of NC, Amber (Downs) Bassett and husband, BJ of Rumford, ME, Arica Downs and partner, Darryl Streeper of Rumford, ME; siblings, Roger Downs and wife, Betty of Ocala, FL, Virgil (Skip) Downs of Washington, Nancy (Downs) Bryant of Livermore, ME, Donna (Downs) Perry and husband, Brian of Jay, ME; two grandchildren, Shai Vanderstelt, and Jakobe Whirley; two great-grandchildren, David and Nora; his nieces, nephews and extended family; a special mention of Jennine's children, Justin Quinn of Hartford, ME, Andrew Quinn and his wife, Christine of Hartford, ME and their two children, Elyza and Kyra. Doug is further survived by the people that lent him their ears when he sang them a song, when he tried not to sing out of key, Dickie Howard, Larry Francis, Dana Berube, Richard Tracy, and Larry Barry. He got by with a little help from them. Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Ferne (Blaisdell) Downs, and a sister, Doris (Jean) (Downs) Brougham.
