Elizabeth Ann Higgins, 93, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Elizabeth (Betty) was born in Standish, Maine on Sept. 8, 1930, a daughter of Albert E. and Cora (Evans) Hanson. She was educated in Old Orchard Beach school system. In 1946, Betty married her beloved husband, Harold Higgins. They raised their two sons Eric and Von in Portland. Betty began her working career at Fairchild's Semiconductor in South Portland and later was self employed at Higgins Market in Portland. Betty belonged to The Red Hat Society and was a life-long member of VFW in Old Orchard Beach. She enjoyed playing slots and social outings. She will be sadly missed by many. Betty was preceded in death by: her husband Harold E. Higgins and son, Von S. Higgins; her five brothers Richard Hanson, Raymond Hanson, Charlie Hanson, Roger Hanson, and Forrest Hanson; and three sisters, Barbara Buono, Claudia Roy, and Judith Taylor. Betty is survived by: son Eric Higgins and his wife, Maria of Scarborough. She is also survived by four grandsons, Christopher Higgins and his partner, Stacy Scott, Corey Higgins and his wife, Erin, Joshua Caporino, and Tyler Strout; as well as one great granddaughter, Hope Higgins, and several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be from 1-3, Sunday, 1/14/2024 for family and friends at the VFW, 76 Atlantic Ave, Old Orchard Beach. A private internment will take place at a later date.
