Fay Irma
Gallant
Jul 8, 1939 — Jun 30, 2026
Surrounded by her family, Fay Irma Gallant passed away of natural causes at her daughter’s home in North Yarmouth on June 30, 2026. Fay was born at home in Winthrop, Maine on July 8, 1939, to the late Marie Page Baker and Francis H. Weller. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Michael E. Gallant; her sister and brother-in-law, Doris A. and Edward H. Cook; her brother Douglas Baker; her niece Karen Baker; and her grandson Royce R.M. Foreman.
Fay leaves behind her sisters, Norma (Robert) Messer and Kathaleen Baker; her sister-in-law Connie Baker; her daughters, Renee Conlogue; Cheryl (Marty) Coyne, Cindy (John) Fitts; Laura (Patrick) Mynahan; her son, Robert (Lisa) Conlogue; and her son-in-law Royce A. Foreman. She will be missed dearly by several nieces, nephews, their spouses, and her lifelong friend Suzanne Orlowski.
Fay just adored her grandchildren: Andrew Coyne, Samuel Conlogue, Paige Fay (Andrew) Balon, Emma Coyne and fiancé Stephen Walsh, Olivia (Carter) Raymond, Katherine Mynahan, Reid Foreman, and Alyssa and Dee Coyne. She was also blessed with four great grandchildren: Kai Coyne, and Nora, Huck, and Ollie “Ben” Balon.
Following graduation from Cathedral High School in 1957, Fay met her husband Robert M. Conlogue while working at Benoit’s in Portland. They married in 1959, welcomed four children, and settled down in the Willard Beach neighborhood of South Portland.
In 1976, Fay married the love of her life, Michael. They were wonderful companions and were known to many as “MEG and FIG” (their initials). Together, they raised five children and created precious memories. Their love for adventure led to annual camping trips and travels to Italy, the Caribbean, and Hawaii. Fay and Mike lived their best life on Forest Lake in Gray for 25 years. This is where they watched their grandchildren learn to swim, fish, ice skate, and dive for rocks. They enjoyed taking canoe and boat rides, picking blueberries along the shore, and swimming to “Halfway Rock”. They tracked loons, birds, and a variety of wildlife while watching the seasonal changes on the lake.
Fay truly was an extraordinary woman. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose loyalty, thoughtfulness, and generosity touched everyone she knew. She was always present for her family, attending many musical and theatrical performances, sports activities, graduations, and weddings. She especially loved taking her grandchildren to Red’s Dairy Freeze for a spontaneous “upside-down” meal where you can have the ice cream first!
Beyond her family, Fay displayed exceptional dedication, caring for four generations of the Boulos family. She was a nanny to Kristin and Alison Howe and Drew and Nick Boulos. “Nanny Fay” adored the four bonus grandchildren as her own. At the age of 50, Fay completed her CNA certification at SMCC and worked at 75 State Street in Portland.
Fay’s spirit will continue to live on in our hearts. It is difficult to express the depth of her love or the impact she had on so many lives. Her kindness and devotion to family will be deeply missed.
Together, Fay and Mike will be laid to rest in the Fall, with a graveside service at Calvary Cemetery, as a commitment to their enduring love.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Fay’s memory by spending time with those you love, offering kindness to others and perhaps enjoying an “upside down” meal with someone special.
