Gary Stephen Hawkes Oakland - Gary Stephen Hawkes, 71, died peacefully at Hospice of Southern Maine - Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on March 4th, 2024. He was born March 18th, 1952, in Portland, the son of the late Norman E. and Hilma L. (Sanborn) Hawkes. Gary Graduated from Windham High School, class of 1970. Gary was a proud long-term employee of Maine Central Rail Road until his retirement. Gary met several wonderful people through working and volunteering with many railroads. He was a member of the Legion. Gary is survived by Daughter Stephannie Hawkes of Portland, Son Michael and his wife Amanda Hawkes of Sebago, Daughter Marybeth and her Husband Alex Brandow of Standish. In addition to his children, he is survived by his sister Gail Hawkes and her Daughter Erica Long of Windham. Gary also has many grandchildren Mikayla, Logan, Michael Jr, Chase and Owen. The family thanks the staff of Gosnell Memorial, Maine Medical Center and his caring neighbors. Celebration of life will be held March 26th, 2024 from 11a-2p at the American Legion- Windham, 35 Veterans Way, Windham. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
