Henry Walter Butler York, 92, of Windham, Maine died June 20 at Gosnell Memorial House. He was born August 5, 1932 in Brunswick, Maine to Wesley Bartlett York and Gladys Lenore (Catlin) York. He lived in Cundy's Harbor, Maine without running water or electricity attending a one room school house until the middle of the third grade when the family moved to South Portland. He attended East High Street and Henley schools and graduated from South Portland High School in 1950 where he was the school photographer, in the art club, on the rifle team, and worked on the Year Book. He served for 12 years (1950-1962) in the naval reserves as a sonar man earning the rank of petty officer class. His career was in purchasing beginning at Edwards and Walker as a buyer and moving on to become the Purchasing Agent for both the city of Portland and South Portland. He had his own wedding photography business. In retirement he continued to enjoy photography and making photographic greeting cards. He had a great interest in music, recording, and mechanical musical devices. He had a collection of antique music boxes, phonographs, reel to reel recorders, and reel to reel tapes. He enjoyed old movies and had a large collection of tapes and DVD's. He is survived by his wife, Gail, a brother Alan and his wife Paula of Standish, his son, Steven, and his wife, Elaine of Windham, two daughters Gail Head and her husband Jeffrey of Ocala, FL and Linda McCormick and her husband Michael of Escanaba, Ml, a step son Scott Palmer and his wife Lisa of Oregon City, OR, two nieces, numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren. At the family request the burial will be private.
