JONESPORT-Horace H. Peabody Jr., 73, died on June 27, 2022, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn, Maine. He was born September 24, 1948, in Jonesport, Maine, the son of Horace H. Peabody Sr. and Minerva E. (Tracy) Peabody. Horace became a father at a very young age (19 years old) and during many conversations that he had at the end of his life; he was able to express how much joy being a father provided. He had 7 months to prepare for his death and during those moments of absolute vulnerability and honesty, he came to understand that his greatest fulfillments came from family, keeping "good company" with friends, cultivating forgiveness for self and others, and telling stories about his life on the ocean as a lobster fisherman in Downeast Maine. He worked from a very young age and found great pride in providing for his family with a job well done at the end of the day. He liked to work, period. Motor oil was also in his blood. If it had an engine and he could race it, he was in it. He was good at pushing himself, pushing machines' limits, and expecting the best out of himself and the people surrounding him. He was an excellent judge of character and often set the bar highest for himself. He was married to Teresa A. Peabody for 31 years and after they divorced, he was with his domestic partner Allison Mutty for over a decade at the time of her death in 2010. He was also predeceased by his parents, his granddaughter Jessalyn, his sister Emily and brother Ronald. Surviving are his daughter Sheri Peabody and husband Casey Cobb of Mansfield, CT; sons Charles Peabody and wife Rebecca of Independence, MO, and Chad Peabody and wife Amanda of Cherryfield; one sister Jackie Peabody of Addison; ten grandchildren, Caden Cobb, Sedona Cobb, Johanna Peabody, Hailey Scott, Jareb Peabody, Sebastian Peabody, Zoe Peabody, Braylynn Peabody, Hunter Peabody, and Rolla Peabody; two great-grandchildren, Preston Scott and Harlow Scott; nephews Elliott, Robert, and Joshua and niece Grace. He was also survived by his cousin and best friend Carlton "Usky" Hoffses and his wife Susan of Jonesport, Maine. A service of remembrance will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 20 in the Jonesport Greenwood Cemetery at Manson Bay Road on the Peabody plot. Those of you who wish to remember Horace may send cards and any stories about him to his daughter Sheri Peabody at 28 Jacobs Hill Road in Mansfield, CT 06250.
