Irene J. (Norris) Mossman passed peacefully with family by her side on 9/6/26 after living with Alzheimer’s disease for several years. Irene was born in Orange, Massachusetts, growing up in North Grafton and Northborough. She was a graduate of Northborough High School (class of 1952), Malden School of Nursing (class of 1955) and Quinsigamond Community College, Early Childhood Education Program (class of 1977). 

Irene married Henry (Hank) Mossman in 1955. They built their home, raising their children, Paul, Nancy, and Julie in Northborough. Irene’s parents, Raymond and Everlena (Lyman) Norris, her sister, Carol Reynolds & her son Raymond Sr, husband Hank, son Paul, son in law Peter Gavel & grandson James Gavel all passed before her. She leaves behind her daughter Nancy Gavel, granddaughter Katherine Gavel Stinson & her husband Ryan, daughter & son in law Julie & Kevin Coyne, grandson Christian Holland, his wife Carolyn & great grandson Riley, granddaughter Shannon Holland & her partner Ryan Pellerin & nephews Robert, Ralph & Richard Reynolds & their families. 

After retiring, Hank and Irene had amazing adventures. They sailed up and down the eastern seaboard and to the Bahamas on their 33 foot sloop, Nemesis, before trading the sailboat for an RV, and traveling the country. They explored from Alaska, Canada and the US, to the Baja peninsula and Mexico, eventually ending up in Harlingen, Texas, where they spent their winters. Irene spent time teaching basketry while Hank carved & showed his work in local shows. Their dogs, Molly & Brandy were their constant companions. 

Irene was honest, fierce, passionate, thoughtful & strong willed. She spent her lifetime caring for others, teaching & advocating. Her presence will be missed by all who knew her. 

Our gratitude goes out to Andwell Hospice, True Comfort LLC & those who made it possible for Irene to live her final days at home, in peace, with the comfort of her family & beloved cat Tiger, who never left her side.

A celebration of her life will be held at a date yet to be determined.
