Jewel M. Hurte, 21, died of complications from leukemia at Maine Medical Center. She was born April 21, 2000 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Damon Haskin and Shannon Hurte. Jewel graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School in the class of 2018. She worked at Beach Bagels, Big Daddy's, and Landry's Shop N Save. Before her diagnosis, she had been planning to return to school to become a psychologist specializing in addiction treatment. She was predeceased by her grandmother, Joan M. Hurte. Surviving are sisters, Krista M. Hurte of Pittsburgh and Sky Feldmeier of Las Vegas, NV; her uncle, Donald Hurte and his daughters, Tiffany and Ashley, all of Pittsburgh, PA and a niece and three nephews. Jewel was a very special gift to her family when she was born. She grew up to be an amazing young woman. Jewel fought her courageous year-long battle with leukemia with grace and dignity beyond her years and will be remembered and mourned by the many people she touched in her short life. Guy and Sophie Loranger and Krista Hurte wish to acknowledge and thank the staff at Maine Medical Center who took such good care of Jewel throughout her illness. There will be a celebration of life held at noon on December 4, 2021 at the Masonic Hall, 130 West Grand Avenue, in Old Orchard Beach. Please bring your fond memories.
