Joan T. (Afthim) Jackson, age 87, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Joan's passing marks the end of a life full of love, kindness, and unwavering compassion for those around her. Born to William and Margaret (Pineau) Afthim, Joan was one of thirteen children, blessed with the unique bond of being a twin to her best friend, Jeanne (Afthim) McKenney. Growing up in a large, loving family, Joan's heart was shaped by those around her, and she carried that warmth throughout her entire life. Joan was a longtime resident of Westbrook, Maine, where she raised her three children, all of whom she adored. In her early years, she worked at Kourapis, the Greek restaurant on Main Street in Westbrook, a job that she loved. Later, Joan dedicated herself to caring for her children, and she ran a small in-home daycare, providing a nurturing environment for many others in her community. A lover of simple pleasures, Joan found joy in the thrill of a good bargain—whether it was hunting for treasures at yard sales or finding a deal on the clearance racks at the Westbrook CVS. One of Joan's most defining qualities was her compassionate heart. If she knew anyone in need, she was the first to offer help, always with a smile and a kind word. Her love for others was boundless, and she had a special way of making everyone feel valued and loved. Joan was also deeply spiritual and had a profound connection with music and dancing. Up until the very end of her life, she would happily wiggle her backside to music, often while strolling with her rollator walker. She brought joy and laughter to everyone around her, and her warm, sweet personality left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Joan was also a proud grandmother, affectionately known as "Grammy," "Nana," and "Yai Yai" to her six beloved grandchildren: Sophia and Julia Treadwell, Alisha and Alexander Blake, and Isaac and Maxwell Noyes. Her bond with them was one of unconditional love, and she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. For the past five years, Joan was blessed to receive exceptional care at the Sarah Frye Home in Auburn, Maine. The dedicated staff there became her second family, showering her with the love and care she truly deserved. Her family is deeply grateful for the kindness and compassionate care of the Sarah Frye team, as well as the wonderful care provided by the team at Beacon Hospice. Joan is predeceased by her daughter, Debra Treadwell of Falmouth, nine of her siblings, and her beloved husbands. She is survived by her adoring children: Daniel Blake of Lewiston, Maine, and Gloria (Blake) Noyes; her son-in-law, Jeff Treadwell of Falmouth; her son-in-law, Stephen Noyes of Westbrook; and her cherished grandchildren. Joan is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Kathy Afthim, Donny Afthim, and Anne LaBrie Osier, who lovingly supported her throughout her life. To honor Joan's legacy and to continue the care of others, her family asks that donations be made to the Sarah Frye Home, a place where true angels walk among the residents, providing them with love and care. There will be no formal service. Sarah Frye Home 751 Washington St N, Auburn, ME 04210 Attn:Vicky Black Joan will be missed dearly, but her love, her spirit, and her kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
