John B. McConnell, 92, died peacefully on January 30, 2025, in Portland, Maine with family by his side. He was born October 16, 1932 in Hartford, CT, the son of the late Bruce McConnell and Alma Ahrens. John lived in Windsor, CT for the majority of his childhood, graduating from Windsor High School in ¬¬1951. John married Charlotte Miller in 1958. They lived in several CT towns before they settled in Granby, CT where they lived for over 35 years, raising their two daughters. John was predeceased by his first wife Charlotte in 1995. He married Diane Schmidt in 2000, residing with her in Old Saybrook, CT and then Riverhead, NY until her death in 2024. John recently moved to Maine to be closer to his family. John was a salesman for his entire career, working the longest for Emery Air Freight. John was a kind, gentle man who was a steady island of calm in the constant hubbub of his growing family. He enjoyed spending time with family and extended family. John travelled to Maine to spend time at the family camp every August. He was a connoisseur of newspapers, financial magazines, horseshoes, and good beer. He was a very good bridge player. John enjoyed going to plays, concerts and museums, hosting holiday parties and travelling with his first wife Charlotte. He is survived by his daughters Leslie McConnell (Ted Bridge-Koenigsberg) of Naples, Maine, Sharon McConnell (Joshua Lobe) of Burlington, VT; and grandchildren Colin, Reed, and Jonas. He is also survived by his sister Ann Steele (Les Steele, Jr.) of Avon, CT, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will have a private gathering in the spring. In lieu of flowers, raise a frosted mug, and offer up a few words of kindness.
