In Loving Memory of Julie G. “Jewls” Shirley

Julie G. “Jewls” Shirley, 77, of Maine, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026.

Born on December 17, 1948, in Caribou, Maine, Julie was the cherished daughter of Albert and Lucy Hewitt. She carried the values instilled in her from an early age throughout her life: faith, honesty, forgiveness, and an unwavering devotion to family.

Julie attended the University of Southern Maine in Portland and graduated with a degree in accounting. Known for her strong work ethic and determination, she approached every challenge with resilience and courage. She was the kind of person who never quit, no matter how difficult the task. Her strength was matched only by her generosity, kindness, and loving heart.

Julie devoted herself to raising her children and ensured they knew how deeply loved they were. Her family often said that although she was one parent, she gave them the love of a hundred. She was a constant source of encouragement, comfort, and support, and her children remained her greatest pride and joy.

Julie found happiness in life's simple pleasures. She loved gardening, thrifting, collecting antiques, reading, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed trying new things and embracing new adventures, whether tackling home improvement projects, Ham Radio, or target shooting. More than anything, Julie treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Julie is survived by her beloved children, Keith Shirley and wife Jennifer, and Denise Sadowski and husband Brian.

She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Hannah Wisecup and husband Jake, Coleman Shirley, Ivy Shannon and partner William Brann, Austin Shirley, Jack Shirley, Brandon Sadowski, and Ethan Sadowski.

Julie was blessed with great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life: Declan Shannon, Oliver Wisecup, Owen Shirley, Reiner Brann, and Thomas Brann, as well as a much-anticipated Baby Wisecup, due in December.

She is also survived by her siblings, Barbara Webster and husband Hap, and Allan Hewitt and wife Maryanne, along with several beloved nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish her memory are her beloved fur babies, Brandy and Roxy, who were treasured members of her family.

Julie was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Lucy Hewitt, and her siblings, Gloria Doody, Galen Hewitt, and Nathan Hewitt.

Julie will be remembered for her fierce strength, her compassionate nature, her generous spirit, and the endless love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy lives on through the family she nurtured, the values she taught, and the countless lives she touched along the way.

Though her presence will be deeply missed, her love remains woven into the hearts of her family and friends forever.

A private Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at a future date.
