Michael Everett Lane, Jr. (“Mikey”), 36, of South Portland, Maine, passed unexpectedly on March 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of loyalty, love, and unforgettable presence. 

He was born on May 25,1989, in Portland, the son of the late Jackie Merena and Michael Lane Sr. 

Mikey will be remembered for the connections he built, the friendships he held with loyalty and depth, his unwavering dedication to protecting those who turned to him for help, and his uncanny ability to make you smile—if not laugh—with his unmistakable “That’s Mikey for ya” ways. 

His soul‑piercing blue eyes overlooked nothing; even in silence, he understood the weight people held inside, just as instinctively as he read the ocean he loved. 

Those who knew him understood the ocean wasn’t just something he appreciated—it was part of who he was, something rooted deep within him. Like the sea, Mikey was untamed and free, often carrying both chaos and strength at once, yet undeniably powerful and compelling in his own way. He was never meant to be confined. 

He had an undeniable need for speed, especially on snowmobiles and motorcycles—his happiest moments were spent riding wide‑open and free.

He is survived by his father, Michael Lane Sr., and his wife, Ann Lane; his sister, Kristina Lane; his son, Jaxson A. Lane; and Jaxson’s mother, Ashley Upton, along with her daughter, Lailah Cresci. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends he considered family. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Barbara Mackey and Betty and Everett Lane; his mother, Jackie Merena; and his best friends, Stephen Foster and Nick Murdock. Services will be announced at a later date.
