Obituary

Richard Edwin Vieta passed away on November 7, 2021, at Maine General Rehabilitation and Long Term Care at Glenridge in Augusta Maine after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He was born November 19, 1951, to Alexander M Vieta Jr and Evelyn (Warren) Vieta both formerly of Oakland. He graduated from Messalonskee High School in 1970. He was a wonderful athlete and played Football, Basketball, and Baseball. He was also known to play the trumpet. He married his high school sweetheart Patty (Otis) Vieta in July of 1973. They celebrated 48 years of marriage on 7/7/ 2021. After his high school graduation, he worked as a Police officer in Skowhegan, Oakland, and Waterville; a volunteer firefighter in Oakland and Waterville; as well as an EMT for Delta Ambulance in Waterville. Rick graduated from University of Maine in Augusta in 2002 and was retired from L.L. Bean and most recently Pharmologic where he was a nuclear pharmacy tech. He served as a Lay Pastor for Turner Center Church and as a hospice volunteer for Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice in Auburn Maine. He was a wonderful husband and daddy and loved going on family vacations to different places and exploring the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and loved to go camping and cook trout on the open fire. His favorite places to fish were Kingsbury Pond and Moosehead Lake. He loved to visit his daughter and son-in-law in Pennsylvania to help with projects around their house and visit Perkins. He spent some of his retirement time helping his other daughter and son-in-law pick blueberries and cut wood. When his family was gathered, he loved trips to the coast to pick sea glass and had so much fun with family game nights. He truly was the "King of Trivia Pursuit" . He loved to tell "dad" jokes and during his stay at the Alzheimer's care Center in Gardiner he loved to tell everyone funny stories. He was preceded in death by his father Alexander M Vieta Jr, mother Evelyn (Warren) Vieta, and many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Patty (Otis) Vieta, daughters Tiffany Hinkley and husband Dale, Sarah Kilpatrick and husband Eric, sister Pam (Vieta) Kriegel and her husband Charlie , his sisters-in-law, many cousins and nieces and nephews.
