Obituary

Stephen A. Hasson passed away on November 16, 2022 following a brief illness. He was born in Portland, Maine on August 20, 1958 to Robert G. Hasson Sr. and Genevieve I. Hasson. Raised in South Portland, Maine, Stephen attended Holy Cross School and South Portland High School. Stephen raised a family in Maine and worked for over 30 years for the Maine Department of Corrections. He married Theresa Rice Hasson and together, they raised two daughters, Rebecca and Amanda. In recent years, Stephen enjoyed new light in his eyes as he welcomed his first grandchildren, Paige and Stella. In his passing, Stephen will rejoin some of his favorite companions, his dogs Celtic, Brandy, and Murphy. Stephen was fond of driving, and his most recent job included transporting students at Bates College. In his free time, if you didn't know where Stephen was, he was likely in his car, meandering his way along country roads in Maine, with no particular destination in mind. Stephen also loved visiting North Conway, New Hampshire, and spending time with friends and family in the valley. Stephen was a Brother of the Ice, and joined lifelong friends each winter on an annual ice fishing trip to share laughs, fellowship, and wait around for a flag to go up. Stephen was predeceased by his father Robert G. Hasson Sr., mother Genevieve I. Hasson, Sally Hasson, sisters Mary Hasson and Kate Hasson, and brother Paul Hasson. Stephen is survived by longtime partner Susan Carr of Lewiston, her son Nicholas Levesque and Stephen's special side kick, Zoey Levesque; daughter Rebecca and son-in-law Eric of New Gloucester, Maine; daughter Amanda and son-in-law Isaac of Wilton, Maine; granddaughters Paige and Stella of New Gloucester, Maine; three brothers, James Hasson and Beverly Johnson of South Portland, Maine; Robert G. Hasson Jr. and sister-in-law Susan Hasson of Sabattus, Maine; Christopher Hasson and sister-in-law Lynne Hasson of South Portland, Maine. Stephen is also survived by many nieces and nephews, friends, and his Brothers of the Ice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Androscoggin Hospice House (https://androscoggin.org/donate/). A special thanks to Dr. John Reynolds who provided the best care and attention a patient could ask for. Visiting hours will be held Saturday November 26, 2022, 11:00 AM- 12:30 PM and will take place at Bates College Perry Atrium/Pettengill Hall, with a service in Gomes Chapel at Bates College following at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at a later date at Calvary Cemetery on Broadway in South Portland.
