Obituary

Steven James Bailey 8-17-1957 - 11-10-24 Steven James Bailey of Westbrook, ME, passed away peacefully at the Gosnell Hospice House of Southern Maine in Scarborough on Sunday morning, 11-10-24, following a long, hard fought battle with heart disease and diabetes. His long time love, Holly Tinkham was with him 24 hours a day through his hospitalizations and his passing. They met as young teenagers of 13 and 15. Both followed different live paths until they reunited in 2006. They remained together as the great loves of each others life and best friends until Steve's passing. Steve dealt with many significant health issues throughout his life. He was predeceased by his mother, Rose, when Steve was 5 years old, and by his father, Ernest Bailey when Steve was 11 years old. His sister, Linda also predeceased Steve. Steve traveled the country upon his graduation from Old Town High School in 1975. He eventually settled in Southern Maine in the Scarborough, Old Orchard and Westbrook area. He worked with Tim and Tom Rankin for many, many years. They were great friends throughout their lives. During the Housing bubble, many construction workers didn't have much work. Steve accepted employment at the Hannaford Supermarket in Westbrook, ME. He worked there for a few years until his health issues could not allow him to work any longer and retired as fully disabled. Steve was an avid mountain climber in both summer and winter. He completed all the 4800 foot mountains in New Hampshire and Maine. He also completed the Maine portion of the Appalachian Trail as well. He loved being outdoors most of all. Steve and Holly both enjoyed hiking before his health got too bad to be able to hike. They would still go for rides out to the White Mountains, which were his favorite and visit locations that he could access. Steve was one of the kindest, most gentle, most humble people you would ever meet. He is terribly missed and will remain deeply loved. In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial contributions to The White Mountain National Forest, USDA Forest Service, White Mountain National Forest, ATTN: Administrative Support Clerk, 71 White Mountain Drive, Campton, NH 03223 603-536-6100.
