Obituary Thomas C Kivler (March 25, 1943, to December 4, 2025)
Thomas Clyde Kivler, age 82, died peacefully on December 4, 2025, at Seaside Nursing Home in Portland, Maine. Called Tom or Tommy, he was born and grew up in his beloved Nanticoke Pennsylvania, the place where he loved to visit his parents, siblings and many cousins, nieces, and nephews throughout his life. An avid fan of football, he also played pick-up basketball through his forties and was an outstanding ping pong player. He loved to eat and even more so, to feed others and was always eager to take any group of family members out to eat. Tom was generous and always quietly supporting the spoken or unspoken needs of others. He is predeceased by his love of the past 30 years, Corinne Keast, his parents and siblings, including Shirley Miles, Emma Conklin, Jesse Kivler, Patricia Peters, and Jerry Kivler. He is survived by his sister, Barabara Halaburda. He married his first wife, Katharine Morgan in 1965, who he is survived by along with their children, Joseph Kivler, Thomas Kivler and fiancé, Colleen Brink, grandchildren Kyle Kivler and wife Kaylee Kivler, Katie Fournier and husband Tyler Fournier, Noah Kivler, and Halorie Kivler. He is also survived by four cherished great-grandchildren Landon & Morgan Fournier and Griffin and Fletcher Kivler.
He graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1961 and joined the US Airforce stationed at the Dow Airforce Base where he was a helicopter crew chief. When Dow Airforce Base closed in 1970, he transitioned to the Army where he rose to the rank of Sergeant First Class, working in logistics and supply throughout his career. He retired from the military in 1997. He was proud to be a veteran of the Vietnam War. Many of his military items (such as his helicopter helmet, formal military uniform and medals) can be seen at the Zephyrhills Museum of Military History (Zephyrhills Museum of Military History in Zephyrhills, Florida). He spent his retirement years traveling between Maine and Florida until he came under the excellent care of the Seaside Nursing Home team in 2022, where he lived until his passing. His family is also very grateful for the excellent care Tom received from the Compassus Hospice Care team. Tom was devoted and loving to all in his family and he is dearly missed.
Tom will be interred at the Veteran's Cemetery in Augusta, Maine, in the Spring of 2026. A funeral mass will be held for him on January 31, 2025 at 10:00 AM at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Church located at 283 Water Street, Skowhegan, Maine.
