Tuula Marjatta Ostrove, 87, passed away peacefully on September 11th, 2026 at Northern Lights Hospital in Portland.

Born in Helsinki, Finland in 1939, she was the daughter of Nils and Maire Gren, sister to Marita and Pentti.

She moved to the U.S. at 19 years of age and started her career as a photo lab technician before becoming a homemaker. She was married to Ira “Ike” Ostrove for 55 years, raising their daughters in Merrick, NY before moving to Falmouth, ME in 1996.

Tuula enjoyed her house, gardens, days at Jones Beach and many cats over the years. She loved photographing flowers and landscapes, and collecting decorative eggs.

She is survived by her daughter, Liisa Abbatiello and her partner Josh Allen of Portland, and her beloved cat, Mr. Gilbert. She was pre-deceased by her daughter, Satu Harris, in 2010 and her husband Ike, in 2026. She also leaves behind five grandchildren and one great grandson.

She will be buried in Finland in the spring of 2027.
